Week 8: Prototype Progression

Continuing on building up a prototype. Now I have created a top rail of the model. The prototype I created is different from Olivia's model. As I found it was difficult to place to servo under the moving plate. And It is easier to work with when the servo is at the top instead. I might have to cover up this whole rail later to clean up to look of the prototype.

Olivia's model showing the top plate rail and its component.

Top rail. The moving plate which is carrying a servo in which its rotation will control the length of the string. At the two end of the plate are the two motors that will rotate corresponding to pull the plate on the wheels to move left and right.

The servo is glued on top of the plate attach with the rolling tube with string.

These are the platform for the boxes to sit on.

 Putting together the top plate and the rail.

The boxes are still need to contain a steel plate. This is for the magnet to grab to box and move it along the rail. I have not actually figure out how to do so but it will come afterward. At this stage I will need to get the servo and motor to work properly first.

Week 8: Prototype progress (First draft)

This week I started to make a prototype model for our project. After Olivia's interpretation from the model animation she has created. She then came up with the rough dimension for the prototype model.

The following images are the model, explanation and dimension for the prototype.

I made the model out of Balsa wood which is easy to work with. The model is created to demonstrate the mechanic system of our device. At this stage I created the 5 boxes and the rail for the boxes to move.

 The boxes are roughly 4x4 cm each, made out of cardboard.

Rail for the box to move along.

Plate which is connected to the rail. ( Boxes will be glued onto the plate)

Boxes are placed on the plate.

Week 8: Review on presentation group 3 and 4 INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Review on presentation group 3 and 4 : Intellectual Property

Group Name: Interactive Architecture
Group Topic: Intellectual Property
Grade:  CR

Clarity of the oral presentation
In my opinion, the oral presentation was concise and clear in terms of concept idea of the topic. However some of the member spoke was not loud enough which make it hard to catch what they were saying. But it the slide they provided with a point form of the topic it give me a bit of understanding of what they are presenting. The group had plan well who is responsible to which topic and organize the order of the content quite well.

Clarity of the written presentation
They have covered all the information about intellectual property. This is very detailed and written clearly to the slide. With the use of short sentences and point form, it is easy to read and focus.

Distinctiveness and specificity of the examples
This group has taken the example in which well known and most people must have heard about it that is very effective. The case of Apple and Samsung demonstrated the concepts of intellectual property very well. The group has chosen a very clear example for their presentation. I like the example of the cup holder but I think it was not clear of which part of the intellectual property it applied.

Reference
The reference at the last page of presentation was good and properly reference. However to support the idea, I think it would be advantage to reference the source of information about Apple and Samsung lawsuit came from such as newspaper and etc. This is to support more understanding of the audience to the topic.

The conceptual context
The term did not demonstrate the connection between the topic to their project at all. They did not present any element from the project which can be relate to intellectual property. However they have a deep understanding to the content of the topic in term of theory.

The still image
The image used in the presentation was very powerful in order to communicate the concept. They picked quite a good example and images for their presentation. Images used were clear in size and effective to the content. Personally I think this group has most images that make things understand easily.

Group Name: Geri Ambience
Group Topic: Intellectual Property
Grade:  DN

Clarity of the oral presentation
The group’s oral presentation communicate a clear and concise theoretical of the group topic concept. Corresponding with the slide they have produced it create a clear point of what are the content that needed to be focus. All the group member has clear and loud noise which is advantage to the audience to understand.

Clarity of the written presentation
Simple and short sentences in point from allow audience to grab the most important content and so easier to understand with the explanation from each group members. This is very clear and concise.

Distinctiveness and specificity of the examples
Most of the example is linked to their own project. This group is using Kinect SDK that holds some condition with the intellectual property. The example that they created with the software copyright demonstrated how important this topic is. They also mention the sauce code that they used, all the credit and reference needed to refer to the resource to keep the intellectual property right. This is very effective and shows their good understanding to the concept.

Reference
Good reference at the end of the slide. They have referenced all the resource of their content in this presentation. They also mention this is also part of intellectual property. I think this is also a good example that everyone always experience.

The conceptual context
As the fact that they relate the content to their project, I think they have a good conceptual context towards this task and each member can identify those examples to the content.

The still image
There was not much image in this presentation, which I would recommend to have more image as it keep audience engage to the presentation and can communicate the content better than text.

This group is working on the Kinect and Arduino like our group. I think this is a good advantage to us to be aware of all these conditions apply. This is to aware ourselves not to copy or taken someone’s else work with out any acknowledgement and reference.

Week 7: Coding Idea

At this stage I am working with Coding and Arduino.

Below are the code that I had.

Basiclly what the code does is commanding the led light red and yellow to turn on and off by 2 push buttons. I decided to start of with this set of code as it can be applied to the code for the model of project. The button act as an INPUT (gustier recognition) and the LEDlight act as an OUTPUT (servo). The servo also move into left direction when button 1 is pressed and another when button 2 is pressed.

The code is only used to guide my way on track and get the idea onto the project.

#include <Servo.h>

Servo myservo;

const int buttonUpPin = 2;
const int buttonDownPin = 3;
const int ledPin =  13;
const int ledPinYellow =12;

int pos = 0;

int buttonUpState = 0;
int buttonDownState =0;

void setup() {

   myservo.attach (9);

  pinMode(ledPin, OUTPUT);
  pinMode(ledPinYellow, OUTPUT);

  pinMode(buttonUpPin, INPUT);
   pinMode(buttonDownPin, INPUT);

}

void loop(){

   buttonUpState = digitalRead(buttonUpPin);
   buttonDownState = digitalRead(buttonDownPin);

  if (buttonUpState == LOW) {

    digitalWrite(ledPin, HIGH);

    for(pos = 0; pos < 180; pos += 1)
  {
    myservo.write(pos);

  }
  }
  else {

    digitalWrite(ledPin, LOW);
  }

  if (buttonDownState == LOW) {
    digitalWrite(ledPinYellow, HIGH);

      for(pos = 180; pos>=1; pos-=1)
  {
    myservo.write(pos);

  }
  }
  else {
    digitalWrite(ledPinYellow, LOW);
  }
}

Week 7: Review on presentation group 2 COMMUNICATION

Review on presentation group 2: Communication

Group Name: Shade of Black
Group Topic: Communication
Grade: DN

Clarity of the oral presentation
For the oral presentation aspect has create a strong clear connection of the concept of communication the their project. They demonstrated the understanding of how the communication can be delivered to both each group member and the other audience. However the general idea of the communication were poorly pointed out. With more intention to the general ideas and overall concept I think the group theoretical position can be carried out better.

Clarity of the written presentation
With a few short sentences and the size of fonts they used, it makes the presentation more interesting and readable. Keeping the slide clear, short and simple but concise succinct, support the presentation very well.

Distinctiveness and specificity of the examples
With the used of video, it made the concept and how to apply them to the project to be acknowledged easier. With their own example from their project, it allows them to clearly explain the idea as they totally understand their project very well. This helps us to understand the effectiveness of each tool that can be use in term of communication process.

Reference
In my opinion the reference should be listed in one single page. This is like a summary of where you get the content of presentation from. Texts that are used for reference also need to be clearly printed to the slide.

The conceptual context
In term of conceptual context, the group has clearly demonstrated a strong grasp of the conceptual context of their theme of collaboration. With all the spoken explanation  and example on slide it made the presentation was very interesting and easy to understand the topic.

The still image
With a broad concept of the topic itself, the image that can be used to support was quite hard to find. The explanation of communication concept is based on the individual understanding and techniques. However this group has used a 3D graphics to convey the connection between people communication.

For our project, communication will be an important part of the project as it is necessity to convey the idea and concept of our project for the audience. Using many techniques that this group used may help our communication for the project better presented.

Week 6: Review on presentation of group 1 PLANNING

Review on presentation of group 1: PLANNING

Group Name: 3RDiConstruction
Group Topic: Planning
Grade:  DN

Clarity of the oral presentation
The oral presentation of the group was very clear and concise to communicate the appropriate group theoretical position. Each group member presents a clear meaning of each topic. There is a connection between the definition of the planning and its theory to the project. This shows the understanding of the concept and research depth of their works. The importance of planning pointed out by every member to emphasize how important planning process is.

Clarity of the written presentation
The written information on the slide show was layout appropriately to show the list of the topic. However there were too many texts and was hard to read from the distance. Point form may be advantage at this stage. Some diagram such as timeline supported the presentation very well. The overall written was well organized and easy to understand.

Distinctiveness and specificity of the examples
The example each member used was distinctive and specific. There were some images and diagram as an example to the project although some image are too small but with the explanation while presenting that gained more understanding for the audience.

Reference
There was no any reference of any images, diagram and contents. All the website, books, images and diagram are necessity referenced. Reference is very important to show the acknowledgement and credit the creator in terms of keeping the right for individual intellectual property.

The conceptual context
Presentation has demonstrated that each member has a clear understanding on the concept of planning. All the members can identify the planning process in which involve in their roles.

The still image
There were not much of an image in the presentation but some of it that they used was quite effective. The most effective element is the grant chart of the timeline. That demonstrated the plan of their group.

Applying to my group planning, with a clear plan of role allocation and applying a dead line for each subtask will help keep all the members on the track. Our group has created Asana planning page to indicate the time where we need to get each task done to be on time. All the members then need to keep up with the schedule and their responsibilities to satisfy the project plan.
